Both are chosen for sulphuric and phosphoric acid. Inconel 825 carries about 42% nickel and titanium, so it resists chloride stress-corrosion cracking and sour service far better; SS 904L is a super-austenitic stainless steel with about 25% nickel that costs less and suits milder duty. The choice is driven by chlorides, temperature and H₂S.
